Brainstorming Game Ideas (with Adriel Wallick)

  • Mechanics
    • The systems that define how the game will react to play
    • The elements that separate games from other media
        • energy meter
        • stamina bar
        • dodge system
        • skill points
        • armor set bonus
          • skill change (gw2 style)
            • example- normal: 1 fireball, with ‘queen’s sceptor’ the fireball splits in 4 small ones, dealing 75% of original but with more range coverage
        • something similar to text adventure games (zork?)
        • characters
          • can choose companion(humanoid) types, match race+class
          • basic 4~ classes? maybe more, wizard/fighter/cleric/ranger
        • def/mdef/atk/matk
          • how will it synergize? what calculation?
            • parabola? so more and more attack points would mean it slows down growth until max level, also 1/10(or so)x atk/matk would be same as base character critical chance/critical damage boost
        • damage types
          • +combinations?
          • elemental dmg/some mobs ae stronger/resistant etc
        • spells and melee (spellcasters and physical classes?)
        • companions!
          • real life animals(tigers, cheeta, tortoise, birds) or fantasy animals (harpy, ice dragon, bone dragon, tiny fae, phoenix?) maybe combinations of irl animals
        • most of these modifiable with skill trees (passive/active skills)
          • active would also have different classifications based on how it operates
            • mana usage amount, aoe(single target/multitarget?), heal/buff, tick damage?
        • character systems/different aspects (deal/tank/heal)
        • dungeon-traps

    • The looks, sounds, smells, tastes, and tactile sensations of the game
    • Game art, sound, and more
        • black and white (maybe a tv)
        • glossy colors?

        • diff time of the day- morning, aftrnoon, dusk/dawn, night/midnight

        • fantasy
        • dystopian
        • pixel
        • grid based tactical turn based game
          • resource management
        • hit and slash (warframe?)
        • tactics based on buff/debuff and stuff
        • voiceovers by people

    • The underlying tech that makes the game work

    • The story, premise, characters, etc. of the game

          • grid-based, stairs, or 3d(think of minecraft)

          • wild beasts?

        • religion (monotheism/poly- war?)
        • king/queen/state of countries
        • isekai- fantasy inside the pc?
          • twist- the goddess doesnt want the mc
        • factions in fight with each other (ravnica-ish?)
        • a witch’s crafting recipe game
        • wild west duel with keyboard timing
        • legends/myths but with a twist
          • ikarus became master of wings and he lived, he taught ppl how to make wings and now they’re angels???
